Oof. You got me with this. As I was reading it I was thinking ‘yeah but you’re obviously the kind of person that can hit these kinds of big goals’ and then you said ‘you have to believe you’re the kind of person that can make this happen’. And there it was. The piece I’d been missing 💥So now I’m off to take a big dream of mine seriously and see what happens. I’ll let you know!
This showing up on my Notes feed just felt like another sign for me. About two weeks ago I decided to change my mindset. Instead of saying "I think this will happen" or "Hopefully this will happen" I just began to say "This WILL happen."
I started to just act like everything will go well for me. It's going to be hard work regardless, but it's been making me feel so much more confident and motivated. I started doing it with my workouts first, and once I realized how successful I was with my fitness journey, I decided to use the mindset with my creative journey as well.
This was such a wonderful read. Thank you for sharing it!
I recall Jim Carey had this part of self-belief, he had a 20 million cheque in his wallet he made out for himself. But he also put in the work and became the first in 1996 (The Cable Guy.)
I need to pull out my Matrix movies again. Neo didn't just believe, he also put in the work.
I admire how you have been able to make this concept work for yourself. But let’s not forget that not everyone can make things happen just by believing they will happen. Those of us with chronic illness and disability can believe that we can change our situation all we want, but that doesn’t make it possible. I always believed I would get well, and made concerted efforts toward that end, never a doubt in my mind, yet here I am decades later, still sick. I only mention this so you’re aware that your concept of believing, though valid and valuable for many, can only go so far in situations outside of those in an ablest society.
It sounds like determination and resilience have been a big factor in your success! I love the concept of success stacking, something to keep in mind as we move forward and overcome obstacles. Thanks for sharing your experience and inspiring us to make mindset shifts.
