Interesting read, as per. Currently opened a tik tok account and have one follower so far, need to give it some more time!

Only 30-40% of creatives (we call them Deserts) think like this though. You are making an assumption people enjoy, or even care about, virality, which is something you, a clear Desert, do care about, or optimization. You're making a very persuasive case for somebody that already thinks like you, but as not a Desert, this make me less interested in using Tiktok, as does everything I have ever read about it, because it's always written by Deserts for Deserts.

You do some decent work about how to pull people deeper with you in the middle, but only for 1-2 paragraphs. Then you go right back to virality and how to pop your next video. Having to start from scratch every time is a nightmare for at least 50-60% of people, especially on Substack. That alone is enough to get them turned off. Reading a book about how to go viral is my literal Hell.

I have no dog in this fight, but given your title it seems like you're trying to convince other ecosystems to try Tiktok, and you're only making a case for people who think like you. You're talking to a bunch of people who choose slow growth of their people over something like Medium where they can go viral more quickly and maybe even make more money. Feel free to discount this, or delete it even.

I'm so easily swayed, I've just signed up to TikTok again. That said, it could blossom into something beautiful!

This is super interesting, it's making me consider trying it actually! What is happening with TikTok getting 'banned' in the States? I lost track of that story

I really believe in it!

Last I heard, it may still happen. It may not. There will be years of court battles, so it's really not a super important factor. Everyone should be building their email lists (or substack) so they can take their fans with them at any point, we could lose any platform!

this is definitely what I'm learning, you have to be your own platform. It's frustrating but at least we get it now.

I adore TikTok and am planning on creating content for there soon. Thanks so much for the idea of turning a Substack article into a TikTok carousel!

If you're already a fan you'll have an advantage because you know what works already. Let me know how it goes! My only tip thats not in the article would be - be consistent!
